Weekly Weigh In 2019-04-08   Leave a comment

Here is this week’s weigh in.  Numbers are a bit up.  I did decide to go off keto for the tail end of the class and that did result in a bit of weight gain.  And I’m ok with that.  I made a decision and I’m willing to live with the consequences.  There were some lessons learned as well.  Leave a Like if you enjoy the video.  Subscribe and click the bell if you want to be immediately notified every time I post a video to YouTube.  Leave a comment here or there letting me know what you think about this week’s weigh in.  Hope you’re having a great week.  Peace.

Quick Thought 2019-04-02   Leave a comment

I’m 48 years old.  In less than half a year I turn 49.  By conventional wisdom I’m supposed to be too old for a lot of things.  Statistically speaking the better part of my life, time wise, is over.  I’m heading into the period of winding down and accepting what life has given me.

At the beginning of last year, when I was 47, I started my ketogenic journey.  Now I haven’t been able to weigh myself in the last two Mondays because I’m away on training.  But as of my last weigh in two weeks ago I was just shy of 100 pounds lighter than when I started.  But I’m supposed to be too old to lose weight.  It’s just too hard at my age.

Up until last year I spoke only one language.  Ok, technically speaking that’s still true.  I’m only fluent in English.  But I’m working on learning Portuguese, German, and Spanish.  Saturday morning I took an Uber ride with a woman who is a native Spanish speaker and she complimented me on my pronunciation skills.  I’m not fluent by any stretch of the imagination.  In fact I’d say I have a long ways to go to get that level in any of the three languages.  But I’m clearly able to take in a new language and do it correctly.  But I’m not supposed to because I’m too old to learn new things.  In fact it’s at this point that they say I should expect my faculties to start declining.

And job wise I just started a new career.  I’m here doing my training as we speak.  At a time when I’m supposed to be on the glide slope toward retirement at a career, I’m just taking off.  But I’m supposed to be too old to be considering starting over in a job.  I don’t have the years left in me to have a full career if I start over today.

But I’m choosing to get into shape.  I’m choosing to learn new tricks.  I’m choosing to start over.  Why?  I don’t know how much longer I have on this planet.  None of us does.  I could be half my age right now and still could be gone tomorrow.  So I choose not to plan based off of a predetermined schedule that’s been arbitrarily foisted on me.  I don’t worry if I have enough time to complete the tasks.  I just worry about today.

And today I’ve decided I’d like to go to bed tonight a little bit better a person than I started this morning.  Today I’ve decided that I don’t want to waste any of the time I have left on silly things that don’t make me better.  After all I don’t know how much more of that time I have.  Today I’ve decided I’ll start walking down paths that make me happier, including career paths.  I don’t know how far I’ll get down the path before my time comes up, but who cares.  I’d rather spend however much time I do have left on a happy path than I would being given twice as much time to walk down a miserable path.

Wake up each day with one mission.  Be happy today.  It doesn’t matter where you are in life.  The beginning, the middle, or supposedly near the end.  Take whatever time you have left, long or short, and just use it to be happy.  Even if you’re supposed to be too old to start over, do it anyway if you aren’t happy with the way things are.  Better to go out smiling not reaching your new goal than to go out sad living up to the expectations of acting your age.

Here’s to a new and brighter future at any age.  Have a great day.  Peace.

This one will be short but sweet.  Yesterday I crossed a milestone with my blog here on WordPress.  I now have over 100 followers.  I enjoy putting posts up on here but there really wouldn’t be much of a point if it wasn’t for all of you following me and reading (and sometimes watching) them.  I am eternally grateful for your support and truly hope that what I am sharing with you is helping you to be the best versions of yourselves.  Have a great day today.  Peace.

Weekly Vlog Is Up On YouTube 2019-03-06   Leave a comment

This week’s video is up.  It’s about being mindful about your self-talk.  Your brain is a computer and it’ll accept whatever input you give it.  Tell it you’re stupid and it’ll accept that.  So it’s very important to consider what you’re telling yourself.  Leave a comment telling me what you think.  Also feel free to leave suggestions for topics or how I can do better with my videos.  Leave a Like and Subscribe if you enjoy the content.  Click the bell if you want to be immediately notified every time I post a video.  Have a great week.  Peace.

I have not one, but two videos this week.  The first is my weekly update.  The second is a thank you video.  I’ll put them both below.  Great progress this week and I’m grateful to be over 500 views now.  Thank you all so much for that. So I’ve been tracking how my YouTube channel has been doing in terms of views and minutes watched.  I have a little spreadsheet I made just for that purpose.  And this morning when I entered the numbers I saw that I had reached a happy milestone.  I’ve gotten over 500 views.

I started my YouTube channel last October.  It’s just barely over 4 months old so that’s about 125 views a month.  I’m very happy with that number.  Some channels may be growing way faster than that, but I also know that a lot of channels get started and never make it to 500 views.  So it’s a good first big hurdle to have gotten over.

At the beginning of the year I decided to recommit to a full year of producing content for the channel at a minimum of 1 vlog per week.  Now I’ve decided it’ll be 2 per week as I’ve started doing my weekly update in video form.  If I manage to get a review video in at least every other week that would mean over 100 more videos to go before I make the final decision about the channel.

But honestly I think I’ve already decided.  Every week the channel starts growing a little faster.  The number of subscribers keeps slowly increasing.  And at a certain point I’m guessing things will start increasing faster and faster and I’ll reach more and more people.  In the end though, come December 31st if I still have one subscriber following me I think I’ll keep going because as long as I’m helping someone it just feels good to do.

I really hope that I’m reaching a lot more than 1 person of course, but even 1 will be enough.  There’s 10 more months and some change to go and I look forward to spending it sharing with you guys who’ve made this journey worthwhile for me.  I thank you for your support in watching my videos and following this blog.  In a little over a month this blog will hit one year since I restarted it and I’ll do a thank you post and recap at that time.

To end this one I’ll thank you again real quick.  If you have any suggestions or comments about the YouTube channel or this one, feel free to leave them here or there.  I hope you’re having a great day.  I know I did starting it out with that great news.  I look forward to seeing you soon.  Peace.

It’s all very well and good that you want to lose weight to be healthier.  Who wouldn’t want that?  How many people do you know who go around thinking “If only I were less healthy how much better would things be?”

Don’t just focus on being healthier.  Consider what you mean by being healthier.  Does that just mean being lighter?  Well if you lose a couple of pounds of muscle you’d be lighter, but I’m guessing you wouldn’t really be happier.

Does being healthier mean being sick less often?  Does it mean running faster?  Perhaps, to you, it means changing, lowering, or possibly even not having to take medications you’re currently on.  Or even just sleeping better.

There aren’t any right or wrong answers here.  Just follow the train of thought where it leads.  You start out with wanting to be healthier.  Healthier to you means having lower body fat.  Better muscle definition.  A chiseled jaw line.  You realize you want to be healthier to be more attractive.

Or maybe carrying all the extra weight you do means you don’t move as well.  So you want to be healthier to be more mobile.  And once you become more mobile you’ll go out and do more in nature.  You just want to be able to explore the world of nature around you.

Again, there’s no right or wrong here, just follow the path to the end.  And when you arrive mentally at your destination put a pin in it like you would on Google Maps to always have it available to look up later.

Because some days you may not feel like eating as healthy.  Some days you may be tired and don’t feel like exercising.  Some days you might not feel like taking a few extra minutes out of your day to do a blog post.  You’d rather call it an early day and get to dreaming.

And then you pull out your mental map with the pin in it.  You remember where you’re headed.  You recall how much you want to be there.  Suddenly that cheat meal doesn’t seem so tasty.  Suddenly you realize you need to at least start the workout and see where it goes.  Suddenly you know that the dreams will be waiting for you in a few minutes, after you’ve shared on your blog.

Nice thing about maps is that they’re there when you need them.  You don’t have to study it all day.  Just occasionally take a gander every now and again to keep yourself on track.  Check your map every so often and you’re sure to reach your destination.  Have a great day.  Peace.
